The Art and Olfaction Institute supports experimental projects that engage with the subject of scent by providing interactive workshops and exhibitions. This rebrand utilizes an organic graphic design language to convey the complexity, emotion and essence of scent. My project is directed towards perfume lovers who want to craft a personal scent or newcomers who want to learn more about the power of olfaction.
Sissel Tolaas has compiled dictionary of invented words she calls “NASALO”. It is work of compiling a smelly lexicon. As a communications tool, smell is devilishly hard to talk about. Whereas colors are labeled with words like “red” that relate only to the hue described, the words that de-note smells invariably refer to other things: skunks, spices, and so forth.
